Stone is what I would call a “regular” boy.  He’s into super heroes, fishing, building forts, football, etc…, you know boy things.  One thing that is a little different from most guys his age, he likes girls.  I know this is a minor thing but I would venture a bet that most 5 year old boys would run the other direction from a girl.  Stone went to a birthday (skate) party a couple weeks ago and when they had “couple skate” he asked a friend to skate with him.  I really don’t care what people say, girls are made to like boys and vise-versa.  It is a natural thing created and set in place at birth.  Now, one of my jobs as a father, is to teach Stone to honor and respect girls.  The best way to do that, I believe, is my actions toward my wife.  I am forever telling her that she is beautiful, the best cook in the world  and that I love her.  I noticed last night that Stone told Ginny that she was pretty.  Then after supper Stone told her that she was the best “cooker”.   It’s true, kids listen more that we think. Are we saying the right things?

Beach place

I hate to admit but I have been to the beach more times this past year than I have in the past 5 years combined.  My family has fallen in love with the beach house and all the adventures that they are having there.  We have caught crabs in the crab cage, shrimp with the net, been fishing and watched the sun set over the sound.  It has been the best summer I have ever had.  It is a great place to just sit back, relax and breath.  We are not promised another day on this earth and I think (me included) that I forget to live for the day.  My father-in-law is not doing well and is ready for us to “let him go”.  He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed himself.  I hope and pray that I will have the strength and courage to live like he did, thankful for each day that God has given me.  This is my “sappy” blog for the year cause I’m feeling mellow tonight.

I have neglected to update this blog for quite some time.  If you thought I was dead, sorry those rumors were exaggerated.  Some folks thought I had left the family and moved to Mexico to become a bull fighter.  I did think about it but I don’t like the sight of blood, especially my own.  No actually I’m lazy, there I’ve said it…..also I hate computers.  I will make a promise to you all.  I will write these when I get around to it and at a more frequent rate, if I feel like it.  That’s all the commitment I can give you, I’m all tapped out.  I’ll be watching you.

I should have bought a lottery ticket

I am gonna get back to writing these post on a regular basis, promise, but my life can be (YAWN) slow sometimes.   We did have some excitement on Monday night.  Ginny went out to the local Harris Teeter for a few items and while swiping her debit card heard a loud buzz come from the cash register.  Now we all know that a loud buzz is not usually a promising sound, so sure enough the manager walks over and asks Ginny if she would walk with her over to the customer service desk.  The manager asked Ginny her name and then got on the microphone and announce to the store that she was the 400th customer of the day and all her groceries were free.   When Ginny came home and told me I asked her the obvious question, “Why didn’t you go buy a lottery ticket?”  I must say I have never bought a lottery ticket in my life.  The whole game thing seems like a waste of money but come on Ginny was on a role.  Our bill at Harris Teeter was $84.33 so I guess in a way we did win the lottery but a few million dollars would have been nice.

My kids all have a terrible sweet tooth, especically Stone, so we usually try to limit the amount of sweets in the house.   This does not apply to Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Easter.  They really racked up this year having a total of 4 Easter egg hunts.  Two at my mom’s house, one at our and one at Ginny’s mom’s.    We like to prolong the “egg hunt” as long as possible.   As of tonight there are no less that 6 chocolate filled eggs hidden around our house.   We’ll have to hunt for them later.   And I wonder why we have an ant problem in the yard.  easter-image

Talking bout stuff

Meeting new people is one of the highlights of these jewelry events. We’ve got some great friends from California, Florida and now Pennsylvania. Last night we met a great couple at one of the after hours events. We had breakfast with them earlier that day so they invited us to sit with them and talk. The party was over at 9, we did not leave till 10:30. Our conversation had a wide range of topics: jewelry, secret service, people drinkng too much and vasectomies. I have not laughed that much in a long time. No matter where you’re from, you can always find folks to connect with.

This our third day here in Tampa, FL and all is good. The weather is a beautiful 80• and we are sitting by the bay relaxing. We just spent 6 hours on our feet in the buying room loading up on “goodies” for the store. Ginny and I are missing the kids more than they are missing us. We call them and they don’t have alot to say. They are to busy having fun without us. Bowling, going to the park, rollerskating and staying up late. They will be spoiled by the time we get home Wednesday. It will take weeks to get them back on schedule and bring them down from their 6 day “sugar rush”. We have the best babysitters. Two of them are taking turns looking after the kids. Can’t wait to get back home and sleep in my own bed. I’m too old for this.
